This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Daniel Dopps who was born on September 14, 1985 and passed away on August 7, 2005 at the age of 19. We will miss and remember him forever.
Daniel rode his first sheep at age 5 and his first bull at 9. He often started sentences with, "When I ride at the NFR ..." He kept a list of people he planned to give free tickets. He wore out two VCR's and three video cameras going over the hours of tape, watching his rides, looking for areas he could improve. If he was home on a Saturday or Sunday night, he was tuned into OLN watching the PBR, planning for the day he would be there.
He took a job as a plumber's helper the summer of 2005 to fund his travel. He had purchased his PRCA permit in January 2005, and had filled his card by April or May. In 2005, we put over 40,000 miles on our car hitting as many rodeos as possible between Wednesday and Sunday. He had started to raise his own bucking bulls. The night before he died, he told a television reporter in Idaho Falls, "I just want everyone to know that this is what I do. I'm going to keep doing it until I can't do it anymore."
No words have been more prophetic. Those who knew Daniel, knew that bull riding was his passion, his life and his gift. Our tears are countless, the memories ever present and the pain and grief endless.

His legacy |
Live Life I believe the legacy that Daniel has left with us is that he lived life to its' fullest. Never to be timid and retreating, but to look ahead and go for it.
As his mother, I knew from the beginning that I was in for one heck of a ride. From the first time we saw a huge cloud of dust coming from the cattle pen when he was only three and found him standing in the middle swinging his rope with all his might just knowing that something would run through it, to the time I looked out the kitchen window and saw him up in a tree with a hatchet chopping away at the branch he was sitting on, or the time he and Greg had a "campfire" in a coffee can in his bedroom, I knew. One evening I was looking at his hands and arms and asked him, "Son, where did you get those cuts?" He calmly replied, "Just being a boy."
Also I knew that he was the most tender-hearted young man, when I saw him tenderly hold up Shannon's mares head as they were burying her, or the tears he cried when his dog Kip, was kicked by a horse and died. He carved a small headstone and placed it in the flower bed where he and Dave had buried him.
Through the pains of growing up, Daniel would struggle with breaking that barrier from child to adult. However, over the last six months of his life, and after he had gone through what I called his "gypsy phase", he had a greater sense of what type of man he wanted to be and seemed to have a clearer vision of what growing-up took. I will forever be grateful for the time that we had and will miss, without end, my beautiful little boy.
